Considering how quickly WordPress grows there are so many wordpress features these days, it should come as no surprise that promoting every single feature WordPress has to offer is unrealistic. There are so many little awesome features and tidbits that tend to get overlooked. The hopes of this post is to give you a closer look at some of the less known features in the hopes they will benefit your blog or website.
This is such a simple feature and yet it always seems to blow people away. If you are using the visual editor, you can select text you want to turn into a link and then past the link. Normally, you would expect the text to be replaced with the URL. However, the visual editor of WordPress is set up to see this as you wanting to embed that link into the text you have selected.
Deleting the Post Name in Order to Recreate it
If you rename a blog post you are working on in WordPresss, you are going to want to edit the URL to make sure the link matches the title. This is a tedious task and it is easy to forget to do this. Did you know that if you just erase the URL it will regenerate to match the current title? This way you do not have to go through the hassle of changing the URL. You can just let WordPress do it for you.
Screen Options For Each User
Screen options are a feature most WordPress users know about. But, did you know you could set screen options for individual users? This means every person who works on your website can set up their WordPress dashboard with the layout and setup they are most comfortable working with. You do not have to worry about someone else changing your screen options. Unfortunately, this isn’t a feature most WordPress users know about and some are scared to use it.
Multiple page posts is a feature a WordPress website or blog owner either tends to love or hate. You can use the tag to create a second page of content within the single blog post you have created. Again, this is something that some people love and some people hate. It is really a matter of personal preference. But, it is still a cool feature and it is there (and easy to use) if you want to use it.
Did you know WordPress has an image editor? Sure, it is not the same as having PhotoShop. But, it is a basic image editor that allows you to crop, rotate, and resize images. The feature is great if you just need to make some small changes to a picture and do not want to be bothered with image editing software.
Embedding Third Party Content
Did you know that you can use oEmbed to embed third party content from Vimeo, YouTube, and Twitter to your website simply by copy and pasting a link? The WordPress editor will automatically convert the link into content and display it on the blog post.
As you can see, there are tons of neat small WordPress features that some people just do not know about. You can find out more about WordPress by using our tutorial called, Getting to Know the WordPress Dashboard.
