Over the last few years website footers have become valuable pieces of real estate. What used to be nothing more than an empty space has turned into an opportunity to generate more business. If you are looking for a way to turn your footer space into something special, here are 4 tips to help you design the best website footer possible.
The worst thing you can do is have your footer cluttered with way too much information. You want it to be clear and very concise. The information you place in the footer should be easy to read. This is not the time to be fancy.
Keep things nice and simple. Don’t cram too much information in the space. Instead you should organize the footer into different sections. If you create additional menus, be sure to use a header to identify the menu.
Add Social Sharing Buttons
These days placing social sharing buttons in the footer of your website is the norm. As a matter of fact, visitors know to look there to find them. When adding social sharing buttons, take a few minutes to design them so they all look alike.
You want the buttons to match your site. If you use WordPress, use one of their many social sharing plugins. When setting up your buttons, always double check to make sure they link to the right social pages. Otherwise they will be completely useless.
Last but not least, never include social sites you hardly use. When people visit your social media pages they want to see that you are active. If you aren’t, they won’t follow you.
Include Contact Information
Chances are you already have your contact information in another location on your website. However, you should also add in to the footer of your website. If you don’t wish to add the contact information itself, you should at least link to you.
Having your contact information in several places makes it easy for potential customers to find it. Contact information also makes visitors feel as though you are a legit company. The easier it is for them to find it, the better off you will be.
Add a Call to Action
As a website owner, your number one objective is to always be building your list. The more leads you have the more money you can make. Your footer gives you one last opportunity to get visitors to sign up for your list. If you add a call to action in your footer, there are a few things you need to keep in mind. First and foremost, be sure the call to action in the footer is not the only one on your site.
You should have another one somewhere above the fold. The call to action in your website footer should act as a reminder. Secondly, make sure your call to action is short and sweet. There is no need to go into great detail. Just tell the visitor what you have and how they can get it.
